UHRICHSVILLE -- Authorities continued to investigate the death of a Dennison struck by a train late Thursday (Jan. 20).
Village police said Todd R. Vandine, 39, was sitting on railroad tracks at about 9:30 p.m. smoking a cigarette when the train approached.
The engineer of the eastbound Ohio Central Railroad train reportedly activated the train's emergency brakes and sounded the horn, but Vandine did not move. He was struck by the locomotive and killed instantly.
Vandine's body was reportedly dragged several hundred yards before the train came to a stop.
Police are awaiting toxicology reports from the Tuscarawas County coroner's office. They reportedly have no clues why Vandine was on the tracks and did not move.
