The 60th annual observance of the National Day of Prayer will take place Thursday, May 5 and this year's theme is "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God." It is based on Psalm 91:2: "I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust,"

Esteemed author and international advocate for people with disabilities, Joni Eareckson Tada will serve as the 2011 Honorary Chairman of the NDP Task Force and will give the keynote address at the national observance in Washington D.C. in the Cannon House Office Building.

The National Day of Prayer will be observed in the Newcomerstown area at an outdoor service at Cy Young Park at 6:30 p.m. May 5. Local church pastors, Mayor Steven Guy and other community leaders will participate in leading the community in prayer. Everyone is invited to attend and free hot dogs will be served after the service. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. In case of rain, the event will be moved to St. Paul Lutheran Church, the corner of Canal and College streets.
