Hattie Gossett Smith, 91, of Walnut Creek, graduated from Port Washington School in 1937. She is the only living student who remembers attending the old St. Clairsville Street school where the school bell was originally installed. The school was built in 1859. The bell was then transferred to the new school, which was torn down a couple of years ago and the present school was built. On May 28, the school bell was re-dedicated during a special ceremony in which Smith attended.
