COSHOCTON -- The investigation into the crash that claimed the life of an 18-year old Fresno man Saturday (June 25) continues.
Dean Franklin Poole II, 18, of Fresno, was reportedly driving east out of Coshocton on County Road 16 when his vehicle went off the right side of the road and hit landscaping blocks and a tree.
Authorities believe Poole was texting when the crash occurred. The crash was reported at 7:49 p.m. Poole's cell phone was found in the vehicle and showed he sent a text message at 7:46 p.m.
Poole was transported from the scene by Coshocton County Emergency Medical Services to Coshocton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead due to the injuries sustained in the accident. He was not wearing a seat belt.
A passenger in the vehicle, Vernon Chanay, 18, of Coshocton, was taken to Coshocton Hospital and later flown by medical helicopter to Grant Medical Center in Columbus. Chanay was wearing a seat belt and escaped the crash with only a broken rib.
The accident occurred just before 8 p.m. Saturday, and assisting at the scene was Coshocton Fire Department, Radio Emergency Association Communication Teams and Prince's Wrecker.
