A Newcomerstown resident is facing multiple charges including assault for allegedly stabbing a 28-year-old man during an altercation last Saturday afternoon (Oct. 29) in the 200 block of East Canal Street.

Lonnie Kellam, 44, was charged with one count each of felonious assault and tampering with evidence following the incident at approximately 5:10 p.m. He was reportedly incarcerated pending a court hearing.

The victim, whose identity is not being released by authorities, was transported by Tri-County Emergency Squad to Coshocton County Memorial Hospital.

He was later transferred to Grant Medical Center in Columbus.

The victims condition was not available.

According to reports, Newcomerstown police officers were dispatched to the 200 block of East Canal Street to investigate a complaint regarding a male armed with a knife.

On arrival, officers located the victim bleeding from an apparent stab wound to the abdomen area.

Witnesses told officers an altercation had occurred between Kellam and the victim before the stabbing.

No other injuries were reported.

The incident remained under investigation by Newcomerstown police.
