NEW PHILADELPHIA The two open seats on the Newcomerstown Village Council will be filled come 2012.

The Tuscarawas County Board of Elections officially certified the election results that selected two out of three write-in candidates as the winners.

Candidates Jimmie D. Carr of Newcomerstown and Susan K. Simmons of Newcomerstown received the highest number of votes for the position. Carr received 161 votes and Simmons received 160 votes, officially.

Write-in candidate Michael D. Mick received 45 votes, officially.

Meanwhile, Michael J. Hartline of Newcomerstown was also a write-in candidate for the Newcomerstown Board of Public Affairs position. He received 59 votes and will join Gregg A. Shivers, who was also re-elected. Shivers received 633 votes.
