DOVER -- The Employee Wellness staff at Union Hospital in Dover has launched the "We Care About Hunger" drive. Their goal is to collect 3,000 pounds of non-perishable food items by April 27. All the food collected will be donated to the Akron-Canton Food bank, which in turn supplies much of the food distributed by food banks in Tuscarawas County.
In addition to seeking donations from their fellow hospital employees, the UH Wellness Staff welcomes food donations from the general public. Items especially needed are peanut butter, boxed cereal, and healthy canned food items like tuna, soup, stew and vegetables. Food donations may be brought to the Information Desk at the UH Main Lobby entrance.
During the Food Drive there will be a sale of raffle tickets for a chance to win two tickets to "Soup For You," a Harvest for Hunger campaign event at the Glenmoor Country Club in Canton April 26 at 6 p.m. Those attending will sample 20 varieties of soup prepared by local celebrity chefs and meet and greet the actor who portrayed the "Soup Nazi" on the popular television sitcom "Seinfeld."
Raffle tickets are $1 each, or six for $5, and can be purchased in the UH Corner Shop gift shop. The prize drawing will be held April 20 at 3 p.m. For information, contact Mary Marshall at 330-343-3311, ext. 2197.
Additionally, the "Harvest for Hunger Idol" event will take place at the Akron Civic Theatre on April 5. Tickets are $3. Tickets for the "Idol" and "Soup for You" events are available from: akroncantonfoodbank.org.
