NEW PHILADELPHIA -- The Tuscarawas County Democratic Party met at Democratic Headquarters in New Philadelphia for its bi-annual re-organizational meeting required by law.

Election of officers for the Central Committee were conducted. The following officers were elected: Martha Campbell, of Uhrichsville, Chair of the Central Committee; and Colleen Espenschied of New Philadelphia, Secretary. Names of the appointed and elected members will be filed with the Tuscarawas County Board of Elections.

Election of the Executive Committee also took place. Ida Barlock was re-elected chairwoman. John Beitzel was elected vice chairman, both reside in New Philadelphia. Nikki Stoldt, was elected treasurer, and Michelle Erwin was elected secretary, both are from Dover. Names of the Executive Committee will also be filed with the Tuscarawas County Board of Elections.

Chairwoman Barlock thanked those in the packed headquarters for their continued show of support. She reported on the progress of goals she set when first elected, noting that those objectives have been met thanks to active Democrats.

She also announced that the Chairwoman's Event will be held at the Historic Zoar School House in Zoar on May 10 at 6 p.m. The Democratic Party Picnic will be July 25 at the Tuscora Park Pavilion at 4:30 p.m. Plans are also underway for the second annual Democratic Labor/Union Labor Day Picnic in September.

Dr. James Hubert addressed the group regarding HB135. The bill concerns voting rights and has been introduced into the Ohio House of Representatives.

A Committee comprised of Chairwoman Ida Barlock, Ronna Harding, Gail Garbrandt, Michelle Erwin, Attorney Mike Johnson, Attorney Douglas O'Meara, and Attorney Zack Space was appointed to revise the Tuscarawas County Democratic Party Constitution and By-Laws.

The next meeting of the Tuscarawas County Democratic party Executive Committee will be in July 2012.
