Newcomerstown High School will be recognizing outstanding achievements for its senior class members by having a student of the month.
Students are selected based on being well-rounded with multiple achievements in areas such as character, leadership, service, athletics, citizenship, and scholarship.
This month's senior recipient is Cody Sproat.
Cody is the son of Connie and Terry Sproat.
Cody is involved in Athletic Leadership Council for four years, and is a dual enrollment student with Kent State University- Tuscarawas Branch for one year.
He is a member of Christ United Methodist Church where he helps with children's ministries and the nursery.
Cody has achieved Academic Honors Awards in 2011 and 2012. He was the recipient of the Stocker Award in 2012, Outstanding American History Student-2010, Best Historical Video for American History in 2010, and Science Fair Award of Excellence in years 2009 and 2010.
Cody has received award in basketball during the 2011-2012 season of most points awarded, 2nd Team IVC, 3rd Team District 5, and, 3rd Team East Ohio District. He has been a member of the basketball team for four years, golf team for two years, WNHS Radio Commentator for one year, a fifth grade camp counselor for two years, and a coach for the youth basketball program.
He has participated in Community Leaf Raking as a service project.
Cody's future plans are to attend Malone University and major in Integrated Social Studies.
