Newcomerstown High School Varsity Football Coach Eric Brock was named the Athletic Director for the 2012-2013 school year when the board of education met May 14.

Brock will take over the position previously held by Matt Ritzert, who served in that capacity since August 2006.

Brock has also been a health/intervention teacher at the high school for five years.

In other business, the board approved the resignations for retirement purposes of Kathleen O'Donnell, high school business/computer teacher and senior class advisor, effective May 31.

Other resignations include: Mark George, freshmen basketball coach; Jerry Addy, freshmen and sophomore class advisor; and Donna Mason, secretary to superintendent, effective July 20.

The board also approved:

Membership into the Ohio High School Athletic Association.

The transfer of Tracy Rominger from preschool teacher to fifth grader, effective for the 2012-2013 school year.

Employment of Mark E. Sommer, high school Chemistry/Physics teacher, for the 2012-2013 school year.

Extra-curricular employment of Don Stevens and Clayton McAfee, middle school football; John Dupke, volleyball coach; Jack Lenhoff, wrestling coach; Tripp Hisrich, girls' basketball coach; and Tiffany Shaw, Majorette advisor and Dance Team advisor.

After an executive session, the 2012-2013 Parent Student Handbooks for students in the school district.

Donations from the Moose Lodge 1337 in the amount of $256.14 and $500 from Richard Wenzelberger for scholarship banquet expenses.

The agreement between the board of education and the East Central Ohio Educational Service Center for services requested throughout the year.

The board's next meeting has been changed to Tuesday, June 26 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school conference room.
