DOVER -- Union Hospital is inviting members of the local clergy to attend an in-service program sponsored by the hospital's Chaplaincy Committee. The program will be Thursday, Sept. 27 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the hospital. Lunch will be provided.

"Spiritual care is an important element of patient care and the clergy who support patients and families are important members of the healthcare team," according to Kathy Willoughby, manager of volunteer services. "This program will provide an introduction to hospital chaplaincy for pastors who are new to the community and will be a good update for those who have been coming here for years."

To reserve a seat at the in-service luncheon should contact Willoughby at 330-364-0833 no later than Sept. 14.

Willoughby said the in-service program will help local pastors understand hospital procedures and improve the visitation experience for members of the congregation. The program will also cover interactions with nursing staff, confidentiality, infection control, parking, and the Emergency On-Call program. The session will conclude with a brief tour of the patient care areas.

"The hospital wants to support clergy visitation and our local pastors as valued members of the healthcare team to better meet the needs of our patients and their families," Willoughby added.

Clergy members who have not yet received the Union Hospital photo ID badge may apply for that credential at any time. Application forms may be picked up at the Information Desk during regular business hours. Application may also be made at the in-service program on Sept. 27.
