The Newcomerstown Board of Public Affairs hired a new Wastewater Operator Class 1 at its meeting last Tuesday.

Matt Thomas of Strasburg was hired at a rate of $10.83 and will start Nov. 19 in the village.

In other personnel business, the board removed office manager Shirley Hayes from her six-month probationary period.

"She's worked hard," BPA President Gregg Shivers said.

"And she will continue to do so," said BPA member Al Miskimen.

The board tabled discussion on the estimates for installing the security window at the water department office. Two estimates were submitted by Henry Construction of Newcomerstown.

The board also allowed the unused 2012 vacation time of employees Ken Schweitzer and Jeff Walters to be used in 2013.

"We have to keep it (the village) covered," Shivers said.

Both Schweitzer and Walters are the only two certified EPA employees in the village. One certified individual must be on-call at all times in the village.

The board will meet again in regular session on Monday, Dec. 10 at 4:30 p.m. at the water department.
