Chad Rose and Ron Haver of Newcomerstown recently visited Colorado, South Dakota, Wyoming and Nebraska. Sites seen were Devil's Tower, Crazy House Monument, Mt. Rushmore and the Badlands.

The last half of the trip was a mule deer hunt near North Platte, Neb., with Spring Outfitters. The hunting areas were south of North Platte in Lincoln County which contains many rugged ravines, draws, and creek bottoms. These ares have many large grain farms and cattle ranches.

Rose and Haver hunted the Ledic Ranch where Rose successfully stalked a large trophy mule deer buck with his guide, Craig. Rose made a great 150-yard shot in some severe terrain and tagged a 24-inch by 26-inch (4 by 3) buck. After two days of walking 6 to 7 miles in rough canyons and draws, he really earned his prize.

That same afternoon, Haver had an opportunity at a very good 6 by 5 buck, also 24-inch by 26-inch but his stalk was much easier. His shot was 200-yards plus at the buck which was bedded in between two pine trees in a large draw.

Both hunters were grateful to get these two large mule deer and thoroughly enjoyed their Nebraska hunt.
