The American Legion Post 431 had a dinner for Veterans Day on Saturday, Nov. 10 because the holiday was on Sunday, Nov. 11.

The Post will have a New Year's Eve celebration. Registration to attend must be made at the Canteen as they can only handle so many guests. The cost will be $15 per single and $25 per couple. There will be a band and a meal.

They also have fish fries and steak night on scheduled Friday evenings. During the week, there are noon specials offered for only $1 which are open to the public.

The Legion has made contributions at the last two meetings to Journey's End Ministries, Newcomerstown Police Department, Toys for Local Tots, the Gulf War Memorial Foundation, the Olde Main Street Museum and Social Center's Christmas Wonderland, and the Veterans' Honor Guard.

They heard reports on membership and that they need to have those members who have not signed up to get their membership forms and fees returned. They may do this at the Canteen. This is for all members who have memberships. They also encourage anyone interested in joining the American Legion to contact one of the officers or stop by the Canteen for necessary information about membership. The Legion, VFW and VVA have the Blue Star Banners for parents who have sons or daughters serving in the military. They just honored the Hursey family and their son, Sgt. 1st Class Brock Hursey of Newcomerstown with a Blue Star ceremony at the Legion.
