DOVER -- Legendary Malone University track and cross country coach Jack Hazen will be the guest speaker when the Union Hospital Run for Home conducts a runners' workshop Saturday, Feb. 9 in Union Hospital.
The free program will begin at 10 a.m. and is open to the public. Hazen has served as the head coach of the men's cross country team at Malone for 45 years and as the women's cross country head coach for 21 years. His cross country teams have won five national NAIA titles and he has coached over 325 NAIA All-Americans in cross country and track. Hazen recently served as an assistant coach for the USA Track and Filed Team during the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
"We're thrilled to have Coach Hazen at the workshop. He is one of the great running coaches not just in this area but the entire nation," said Run for Home Road Runners Club President Matt Ritzert.
In addition to the talk by Hazen, the workshop will include a variety of features to help runners and walkers with their exercise programs and training for the Run for Home to be held April 14.
Matt Sidel of Second Sole Shoes and Apparel in Canton will offer tips and advice on running and walking programs. Sidel will also help participants select the right type of shoe for their activity. Super Fitness Trainer Jessica Debois will provide cross training tips and Ritzert will discuss the 2013 Run for Home and new features at this year's event.
Anyone registering for a Run for Home event at the workshop will be offered a special discount on the current registration fee. No registration is required to attend the program which is open to everyone, not only Run for Home participants.
