A fund has been established at the Century National Bank in Newcomerstown for the Michael Everhart family. The family's home and contents were destroyed by a fire on Feb. 17.
The home was located at 11826 Blue Ridge Road SW, north of Newcomerstown.
Reportedly, the fire started about 7:30 a.m. when an electric heater in the basement ignited a blanket where a 17-year old boy was sleeping.
The boy, whose leg was burned, was awakened by the fire and alerted other family members who escaped without injury. The boy was treated at an area hospital.
The home was reported as a total loss of about $100,000.
Newcomerstown firefighters rescued the family's dog from the burning structure, and it was revived with assistance by Tri-County Joint Ambulance.
The Newcomerstown fire department was assisted by firefighters from Bakersville, Stone Creek, Gnadenhutten and West Lafayette.
The Red Cross is assisting the family, however, they are currently living in a hotel. Any monetary donation would be much appreciated by the family.
