CAMBRIDGE -- The Southeastern Med Wellness Resources Department set what they thought would be a challenging goal for its hospital-wide food drive: to collect 1,000 food items from its 700 employees.
Donations were collected daily during the week of March 11-15 and by the end of the drive, the food item count had reached a total of 697.
In addition, hospital employees also donated $255.50 in cash donations, which is the equivalent to 1,022 donated foods, bringing the total to 1,719 food products donated to the Grace Food Pantry in Cambridge.
"Many people in Cambridge and the surrounding community don't have enough food to feed their family on a consistent basis," said Julie Beck, RD, LD, a registered dietitian at Southeastern Med and coordinator of the food drive. "Southeastern Med associates really stepped up and helped their community by donating both money and food. Thank you to every associate for their support and donations. The Grace Food Pantry couldn't serve as many people as they do without the generous support of donations from organizations and donors like Southeastern Med and our associates."
