Students of the Month named
There was a tie for sixth grade Student of the Month for March so both Cody Stringer and Dylon Thomas were selected.
Cody Stringer was chosen because he is a polite, responsible and hardworking student who has put forth great effort throughout the school year. Every day, he comes with a positive attitude and he is respectful in class. After being absent, Cody takes the initiative to ask for his makeup work. Also, Cody has spent many hours of his own time this school year working on math problems through an online program called IXL, to improve his math skills. Cody, son of Mike and Heather Stringer, said his favorite class this year is history, because they got to learn about mummies, and he thinks the best thing about Newcomerstown Middle School is the principal, Mr. Peoples. Some of Cody's hobbies/extracurricular activities include going trucking with his dad, hunting, fishing, and playing Xbox 360, and he feels that one of his strengths is helping others. Some fun facts about Cody are that his favorite meal is steak; the last movie he saw was Joe Dirt; his all-time favorite book is A Child Called It; his favorite expression is "Life's a Garden, Dig it;" his favorite celebrity is David Spade; and he said he doesn't think he could live without semis (18 wheelers). The best piece of advice Cody has ever received came from his dad who told him to do good in school, and Cody listened. In fact, doing well in school is what Cody lists as his greatest accomplishment so far in life. In the future, Cody hopes to be a trucker, and drive semi, like his father.
Dylon Thomas, son of Michele Garabrandt and Kevin Meek, was selected because he has become an outstanding student in the classroom, and a very polite young man whose peers can look to as a role model. He displays focused attention during class and raises his hand to ask questions. Daily, he turns in assignments on time, always giving his best effort to complete them. Dylon said his favorite class this year is math because he gets to learn about fractions, decimals, percents and other interesting math concepts and topics, and he feels the best thing about Newcomerstown Middle School is having great teachers. Some of Dylon's hobbies and extracurricular activities include basketball and baseball, and he feels that one of his strengths is drawing. Some fun facts about Dylon are that he has two pets, Dexter and Sage; his favorite meal is pizza from Pizza Hut; the last movie he saw was "Days of Thunder;" his all-time favorite book is "The Hunger Games;" and he feels he just couldn't live without his mom. The best piece of advice he's ever received came from his mom, who told him to "treat others how you want to be treated." So far in life, he lists his greatest achievement as being chosen as Student of the Month, and in the future, Dylon hopes to join the Army.
