The 62nd annual observance National Day of Prayer will be Thursday, May 2 and there are several events taking place in the area.

Newcomerstown will have an outdoor service on May 2 at 6 p.m. at Cy Young Park. Local pastors and community leaders will participate in the event, including the Newcomerstown Veterans Honor Guard and the Newcomerstown High School Band. The keynote speaker will be delivered by the Rev. Tim Pritchard of Pleasant View Church, Newcomerstown, and minister of music at Trinity Gospel Temple, Canton.

All are invited to attend the Newcomerstown observance, and free hot dogs and drinks will be served after the service. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. In case of rain, the event will be moved to St. Paul Lutheran Church, the corner of Canal and College streets.

The Newcomerstown event is sponsored by the Newcomerstown Area Ministerial Association, in cooperation with the National Day of Prayer Task Force.

Meanwhile, the service at the Bakersville Presbyterian Church, 28164 Coshocton County Road 97, Bakersville, will feature several guest speakers and will begin at noon.

Lunch will follow the service in the Fellowship Hall.

Food contributions of the following items will be collected in support of the Salvation Army of Coshocton County: Juice, peanut butter, jelly, pasta, pasta sauce, vegetable and boxed potato products, and toiletry items.

National Day of Prayer

The theme is "Pray for America" and is based on Matthew 12:21, "In his name, the nations will put their hope."

The Honorary National Chairman for 2013 is Greg Laurie, senior pastor of the Harvest Christian Fellowship of Riverside, Calif. He is also the founder of Harvest Ministries, and the featured speaker of the nationally-syndicated radio program, "A New Beginning," which is broadcast on more than 650 radio outlets around the world.
