Jansen Lenzo, of Newcomerstown, competed with The Ohio State University Moonbuggy team and finished ninth among 92 competitors at the 2013 Great Moonbuggy Race April 25-27 at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala. Lenzo, along with 11 other engineering student participants, constructed and tested the "Buckeye Buggy" since August. The team finished ahead of many of the other racers despite the fact that they suffered a severely bent tire in their second run. However, the all-student team must put together their moonbuggies just moments before the starting gun goes off. All pieces of the moonbuggy must fit inside a 4-foot cube box, as well as a way to mirror the restrictions set by the original Lunar Rover Vehicles used in Apollo 15, 16 and 17. Lenzo is majoring in Welding Engineering at The Ohio State University. He is the son of Charles and Gale Lenzo of Newcomerstown, and a graduate of Newcomerstown High School.
