The sixth grade team has numerous comments to share about their star student, Jade Johnson. Johnson was chosen as their April Student of the Month because she is an excellent role model for the sixth grade class as well as all NMS students. She displays a great work ethic as she is very attentive and works diligently on assignments. Daily, she enters the middle school with a positive attitude and a smile on her face. She is always willing to help her fellow classmates and teachers. Johnson strives for excellence in school and in her activities outside of school as well. Her teachers appreciate her hard work and dedication at NMS. Keep up the excellent work, Johnson. We are proud of you! Jade, daughter of Jamie and Angela Johnson, said her favorite class this year is math, because she likes learning new math concepts. She believes math to be one of her strengths. Some of her hobbies and extracurricular activities are playing fast pitch softball for Twisted Sisters, hanging out with friends, and reading books.
She also enjoys playing with duct tape to create her own crafty creations such as bows and purses.
Some fun facts about Jade are that she has two pets (one dog and one rabbit); her favorite meal is chicken alfredo; the last movie she watched was "Hunger Games;" her all-time favorite book is "Mother, Please Don't Die;" and she said she could not live without her friends, softball, volleyball, and of course, duct tape. She feels the best thing about Newcomerstown Middle School is that the teachers help her learn. The best piece of advice she has ever received was from Hannah Kennedy who said, "Never give up and keep trying, because you can do it!" In the future, she hopes to be a fast pitch softball player for the USA team. So far in her life, Jade feels that her greatest accomplishments have been placing in the Fifth Grade Math Tournament and hitting her first grand slam homerun!
The seventh grade teachers have nominated Calvin Ringer as their April Student of the Month because they feel he is an all-around good guy, who takes his schoolwork seriously and strives to do well in all that he does. He participates in many extracurricular activities, including football, track and band. In addition, young Calvin shows his kind heart by raising money for Relay For Life and conducting his own fundraisers to benefit children who are patients at Southeastern Med. The teachers here at NMS wish they had more students like him. Calvin, son of Matt and Cathy Ringer, said his favorite classes this year are Band and World History, because both of his teachers are great and fun to be around.
In addition to the activities listed above, Calvin is also active in 4-H, enjoys hunting, and is a member of the National Junior Honor Society and NMS Student Council. Calvin feels that one of his strengths is being a good listener, and thinks the best thing about Newcomerstown Middle School is the teachers, because they make learning fun and interesting. Some interesting facts about Calvin are that he has several pets (1 dog and 5 donkeys); his favorite meal is pizza; his all-time favorite book is Hunger Games; his favorite celebrity is Kevin James; his worst fear is being kidnapped; and he feels he could not live without his four-wheeler and his cell phone. The best piece of advice Calvin has received so far came from a lad much younger than himself, Weston Boltz, who said "John Deere stinks!" (Apparently, he's more fond of the color red -- a Case IH fan!) So far, Calvin feels his greatest accomplishment has been getting inducted into the National Junior Honor Society, and in the future, he hopes to become an architectural engineer.
The eighth grade student Brandon Tanksley has been chosen as Student of the Month for April by his teachers because he works hard, studies hard, and is always respectful and willing to help his peers and staff members. Brandon consistently shows "P.M.A." (Positive Mental Attitude), cares about his grades, and strives to always give others his best. Brandon, son of Matt and Rolanda Royer, said his favorite class this year is history, and that the best thing about Newcomerstown Middle School is the good teachers. In his spare time, Brandon enjoys baseball, golf, fishing, hunting, and actually anything outdoors, and he feels his strengths are his ability to do math and being a hard worker. Some fun facts about Brandon are that he has two dogs as pets, Penny and Sadie; his favorite meal is steak and fried potatoes; the last movie he saw was "Zero Dark Thirty;" his all-time favorite book is "Where The Red Fern Grows;" his worst fear is bears; and he feels he could not live without his guns. The best advice Brandon has ever received came from his teacher, Mr. Hines, who said, "Stick with it and you can outwork others." So far in life, Brandon thinks his greatest accomplishment has been pitching against Indian Valley in a tournament and shutting them down, and in the future, he hopes to play major league baseball.
