COSHOCTON -- A Noble County man was killed early Thursday morning (Aug. 15) when he fell from an oil rig in Coshocton County.

John Roberts, 27, of Belle Valley, was killed when he fell approximately 50 feet from a platform on the oil rig near Coshocton County Road 5. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Roberts was reportedly working on the platform when he slipped and fell. It was not known as of press time Friday what caused him to slip on the platform just after 12 a.m.

Coshocton County EMS and the West Lafayette Fire Department responded to the scene. Coshocton County Coroner Dr. Robert Gwinn also responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.

Roberts was reportedly employed by FMS Drilling Inc. of Senecaville.

No additional details were available as of press time.

The accident remained under investigation.
