On Sunday, Aug. 25, approximately 50 people attended the Calvary United Methodist Church in Newcomerstown dedication of their newly erected flagpole and raising of the United States Flag. Assisting with the flag raising were the Newcomerstown Veterans Color Guard, under the command of Vane Scott III.

This dedication was made possible by the generous donation of the Calvary United Methodist Women's Missionary Group that provided the funds to purchase the flagpole and a couple flags.

Prior to the actual raising of the flag, those present were welcomed by Calvary's Pastor the Rev. Eric Miller, who gave the invocation. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by the Red Rock Rebels 4-H Club. Bob Casterline sang the Lee Greenwood song, "God Bless the USA." Alan Hart then gave a few remarks reminding all of the freedom that we enjoy while living under this flag.

This dedication was then turned over to the color guard who raise the flag and stood at attention while the "Star Spangled Banner" was sung by the District Superintendent, the Rev. Jim Humphrey. He thanked all who attended and gave the benediction.

Refreshments were served in the church fellowship room by the ladies of the Calvary United Methodist Church.
