The New Philadelphia Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that involved two Newcomerstown Police Officers last Tuesday (Aug. 27).

Reportedly, two village police officers were en route to a traffic accident when their cruiser collided with an eastbound vehicle on E. State Street at Dewey Street.

Ptl. Shane Porter, 21, was driving the department's 2007 Ford Crown Victoria east on E. State Street, accompanied by Ptl. Christopher M. Edwards, 25.

Reportedly, Porter was attempting to pass eastbound traffic when his cruiser collided with an eastbound 2005 Subaru Baja, driven by Kyle C. Little, 23, of 774 Cross St., Newcomerstown, as Little attempted to turn left onto Dewey Street.

The police cruiser, with its lights and siren on, had passed a pickup truck and was attempting to pass the Subaru when Little turned. Little told troopers that he didn't see the cruiser and only heard the siren just before the impact.

Both officers were taken to Coshocton Memorial Hospital, and reportedly treated and released.
