NEW PHILADELPHIA -- The Little Theatre of Tuscarawas County is one of only two theaters in the state of Ohio to present the 30th anniversary production of "A Christmas Story." The production will run from Dec. 5-15 at the Little Theatre in New Philadelphia.
"We are pleased to present this holiday classic this year and share in the excitement of the 30th anniversary," said director Don Irven. "The movie was actually filmed in Cleveland and with this being a special year we are excited to share in the joy of the play with audience and cast members alike."
Created in 1983 by humorist Jean Shepherd and adapted in 2000 for the stage by Philip Grecian, this humorous memoir of growing up in the Midwest of the 1940s follows nine-year-old Ralphie in his quest to get a genuine Red Ryder BB gun under the tree for Christmas. The consistent response, "You'll shoot your eye out!" The play includes recognizable scenes and characters from the beloved motion picture.
Also, as part of the 30th celebration of the movie; the Little Theatre will be raffling off some fun memorabilia including an official replica of the leg lamp, the red Ryder rifle, and costume pieces.
Featured in the cast are Dave Osso of Newcomerstown as Ralph, the narrator of the play; Sam Feller as Ralphie; Frank Huff as Old Man; Melanie Slabaugh as Mother; Seth Krocker as Randy. Other characters are played by Dylan Demonte, Patti Feller, Alyssa Feller, Lauren Ferguson, Belle Fockler, Will Haverfield, David Haverfield, Joci Huff, Nick Hughes, Evan Monticelli, Brody Morris, Lorri Pilcher, and Cameron Thomakos.
Staffing the production are Don Irven, director; Jeanne DeWees, assistant director; Chad Roberts, set design; Nolan Martin, lighting design; Alex Allesandri-Bruce, costumes; Pam Douglas, props; Sherrel Rieger, make up; Beth Blickensderfer, stage manager; Trish Green, assistant stage manager; Solomon Whitemire, Anastasia Merritt, lighting; James Pilcher, sound operator; Carolyn Dixon, producer. The stage crew includes Samantha Krocker, Anastasia Merritt, Carmie Brink, Isabella Drummer, Summer Feller, Dee Leidlein, Laura Milarcik, Robin Monticelli, Micah Monticelli, Kevin Leidlein, Susie Hawk, Keri Stratton, Cassidy Callentine, Rusty Bowersock, and Jane Deitrick.
Performances are Dec. 5-8 and 12-15. All shows start at 8 p.m. with matinee performances on Sundays at 2:30 p.m. All tickets are $13 and can be purchased at the Little Theatre box office. The box office hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, during show days from 6 to 9 p.m., and Sundays from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tickets may also be purchased online at the theater web site www.thelittletheatreonline.org.
