DOVER -- While the fundraising totals are still being calculated, the thousands of people who attended 20th anniversary Union Hospital Auxiliary Christmas Tree Festival have named their favorites. The event closed on Sunday, Nov. 24 and the ballots have been counted for the People's Choice Awards for the favorite large tree and favorite small tree.
According to project chair, Connie Finton of New Philadelphia, the People's Choice Award for favorite small tree goes to the staff of Myers and Miller Podiatry of Dover for their tree entitled "Hello Kitty Christmas."
Finton says the People's Choice award for favorite large tree was won by "Guardian Angels" sponsored by Stark Truss Co. and Hostetler Builders and decorated by Wendy Spillman of Bolivar and Susanna Strauss of Dover.
"We congratulate our People's Choice award winners and will recognize them at the Auxiliary's annual meeting next year," Finton said.
Finton says the winner of the Christmas Tree raffle was Gale Lenzo of Newcomerstown. Winners of Elf on the Shelf book sets include Elaina Samsa of Dover; Walter Haskew and Cole Fisher of New Philadelphia, Lauren Maeson of Strasburg, and Katelyn Morris of Massillon.
Finton says that after 20 years the Christmas Tree Festival continues to grow in scope and financial success.
"We are extremely grateful to all of our tree sponsors and the community for their continued support of the Festival and the Union Hospital Auxiliary," she said. "I feel fortunate to be a part of such a collaborative effort of hard-working volunteers, individual and corporate sponsors."
Though totals have not yet been finalized, Finton believes the proceeds from the festival are sure to surpass last year's record totals. The Union Hospital Auxiliary uses proceeds from the Christmas Tree Festival and its other events throughout the year to purchase patient care equipment for Union Hospital in Dover.
