NEW PHILADELPHIA -- Students in the Culinary Arts program at Buckeye Career Center competed against other culinary programs throughout the southeast region of the state on Saturday, Feb. 22 in Columbus.

Entrees were given a gold, silver or bronze rating with those earning a high rating advancing to state competition this spring. Students on the hot team were to prepare the following meal in an hour and 15 minutes from a required recipe: poached salmon, beurre blanc sauce, roasted fingerling potatoes, ratatouille, and chocolate bread pudding with strawberry compote.

The Senior Hot Team, consisting of Trevor Welch and Alex Duncan (New Philadelphia), Selina Board (Dover) and Alexis Shelley (Claymont) received a silver rating and will be advancing to state. The Junior Hot Team, consisting of Dustin Anderson (Carrollton), Eileizia Taylor (Garaway), Shelby Finley (Tuscarawas Valley) and Mercedez Woodburn (Dover) received a bronze rating.

Garde Manger, Kylee Marts (senior, Newcomerstown) received a gold rating and will be advancing to state. She was required to prepare and present her choice of three cold appetizers.

Brandi Moss (junior, Claymont) received a gold rating and will be advancing to state for Pastry Arts. She baked a cake entitled "peanut butter chocolate blast." Kimberly Brown (senior, Claymont) received a gold rating for her Pastry Arts submission of a Mexican chocolate cake with caramel butter cream and caramel glaze.
