At the 88th Annual Commanders Banquet on April 8, Dennis G. Belle, more commonly known as Denny Belle, was named Outstanding Tuscarawas County Veteran of the Year.
Since his military service, Denny has given years of his life in dedication to many services and activities in his community. He not only was a teacher and guidance counselor in our school system but was a track and field events official for 46 years, a volleyball referee for 32 years, a village council member for four years and mayor for two. He worked at organizing the Red Cross in Newcomerstown and has been a dedicated member of the Lions Club for 45. years and served as their president for several years. He has also been involved with his church being the head usher for many years and has served on many committees in the church. Not only has he done so much for the community, he found time to give many years at being a member of American Legion Post 431. He served in many capacities for that organization such as serving as adjutant and chaplain, many years was the organizing force behind the Memorial Day services at West Lawn Cemetery and has been on the Newcomerstown Veterans Honor Guard for many years.
It is rare to find someone like Denny Belle, who is always willing to help where he is needed and always jumps in to do what he can. Belle and his wife Wanda reside in Newcomerstown. The Tuscarawas County Council felt that Belle was the most deserving recipient this year and was presented a plaque by the Tuscarawas County Commander, Denny Ross.
