Gary Watson was born October 9, 1950, at Swan Hospital, now Southeastern Med in Cambridge, and is the oldest son of the late Harvey L. and Frances (Fisher) Watson. Grandson of the late Emmet E. and Janie (Craft) Watson of Byesville. The family resided n Sugartree, now part of Salt Fork State Park. Their farm was adjacent to McCleary's Cemetery. In 1960, the family was forced to move to make way for Salt Fork Park. They moved to a farm on Route 3, now Post Boy Road, Newcomerstown.
Gary was in the first graduating class of the newly constructed Mewcomerstown High School in 1968.
He worked at NCR and Rinks in Cambridge before moving to Zanesville to become a respiratory therapist at Good Samaritan Hospital. Watson earned two associate degrees from Columbus State in respiratory care. He also received a degree from Ohio University in Zanesville in nursing before moving to Columbus. Throughout his career, Watson worked at several hospitals in the Columbus area.
Gary was forced to retire on 2010 after suffering a stroke which left him weak on his left side.
Last June, he went into an irregular heart rhythm called AFIB WITH RVR. This shut down the blood flow to his kidneys, forcing him to be on dialysis three times a week.
Watson recently completed all testing for transplant but was informed at the time he only had six weeks to find a live donor. His time is nearly up. He will not survive long enough waiting for a deceased donor kidney. A live donor is his only hope.
Gary is reaching out to the Watson extended family and relatives as well as the public for help.
He was devoted to his career to the service of helping others. Will you please be Gary's savior?
