Spring is here. After a very mild winter, it's time to get our lawns mowed, cut the bushes back, and clean up around our homes. I know I spent a day just with my garage. And it is very noticeable how many residents have made their homes look better over the past weeks of cleaning and mowing. Sometimes our weekends are more tiring than the weekdays at work.

May has several events every year such as high school graduations and the end of school for all the other kids. Mother's Day and Memorial Day are special days to plan for with our families.

The Village has two spring days for residents planned for cleaning up. There will be two opportunities for you to bring in most of the items that you want to get rid of around the house. The Community Cleanup days are scheduled for Friday, May 12 and Saturday, May 13 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Just like last year, dumpsters will be set up at the street department across from the fire station. You bring most items, EXCEPT garbage bags with food items, brush (such as grass clippings, or branches), vehicle tires, toxic/hazardous materials (including paint/solvents).

Other items that need to be mentioned are please do not mow grass out into the street. Just like leaves, grass will cause backups in the storm sewers. The problem is when the grass and leaves clump up and dry in the storm sewer. You can't count on big rains to come and wash the storm sewers clean. With warm weather comes more people enjoying the outdoors. As always, please be careful as you drive down the streets.

On a final note, I am sad to report the resignation Michael Wise from the Newcomerstown News. He and his staff did an excellent job in bringing the paper back to its former status. The good part of this for the Village is that he is once again running the Cy Young Pool and Park. We welcome him back, and the return of Kristen Meeks as the assistant manager.
