The Newcomerstown Public Library will honor the Newcomerstown Police Department for all of their hard work with an event on Tuesday, July 18.

Children will serve the officers and attending adults root beer floats to learn about community service and giving. The children will present a small award to thank the Newcomerstown Police Department for their service.

"Our goal is to help kids discover the importance of giving to people and the community," said Wanda Gray, the head of Youth Services. "This summer we are focusing on what each of us can do to improve our world and our community, from recycling to doing acts of kindness."

The event will be held at the library's main building at 1 p.m.

A free summer lunch for children is served Monday through Friday at the library's Annex from 11 a.m. noon. This program is a collaboration with the Newcomerstown School District.
