Austin Gano, 17, is the son of Justin and Amber Gano.

During the summer between his 8th and 9th grade years, Austin participated in a missionary aviation camp through his church and had the opportunity to fly planes. In his sophomore year, he joined the Leo Club, which is the junior version of the Lions Club. The Leos organize and partake in community service activities and have done many things, such as, raising money for the Humane Society in honor of Dean Taylor; hosting a Thanksgiving dinner at the Senior Center; and lending a hand in West Virginia with flood relief efforts. Austin was named secretary of the Leo Club his junior year. He also joined the Interact Club that year. The Interact Club sponsor a hat and glove drive and an Easter egg hunt for the East Elementary School.

Austin was a member of student council and was the Secretary of Defense for the junior class. He helped with blood drives, school dances and fundraisers for prom.

He was inducted into the National Honor Society his junior year.

He is enlisted in the United States Army and hopes to serve his country to the best of his abilities. He then plans to pursue a career in politics or business.
