SUGAR GROVE - Visiting Newcomerstown High failed to get on the scoreboard in a 41-0 loss to Berne Union on Friday.
The Rockets dominated from start to finish with a balanced offense attack as they scored 20 points in the first half and 21 in the second.
The scoring started just four minutes into the contest when Berne Union drove the ball down to the Trojans’ one-yard line where Zane Mirgon crossed the goal line and put the hosts ahead early, 6-0, with 7:40 on the first-quarter clock.
Senior quarterback Jacob Ricker scored the next two TDs for the Rockets, one coming at the 2:09 mark in the first when he ran to paydirt from 15 yards out and the second coming from one yard away with 9:31 left in the second quarter.
Robbie Brendsel booted in the extra-point following Ricker’s two touchdowns and Berne Union (2-1) entered halftime with a convincing 20-0 edge.
The scoring parade continued in the second half for Ricker and the Rockets when Logan Vangundy reeled in a 34-yard touchdown pass from Ricker 24 seconds into the third quarter.
Brendsel converted on the PAT and Berne Union owned a 27-0 advantage heading into the final quarter of play.
The hosts scored two more times before the game came to a conclusion.
With 10:34 remaining in the fourth, Brady Weldner scored on a 14-yard rush and Jacob Hurst followed that up with a two-yard rushing TD to finish it off.
Both extra-points were kicked in by Brendsel providing the 41-0 outcome.
The Trojans’ defense did force one turnover in the game when Calvin Ringer recovered a fumble in the third quarter.
Sophomore Wyatt Conner continued to pace the Newcomerstown rushing attack with 36 rushing yards on 17 attempts.
Through the air, QB Gavin Weaver completed 3-of-8 passes for 30 yards with Conner landing two aerials for 22 yards.
The visiting Trojans (0-3) could only muster 107 yards of total offense and committed five penalties for 35 yards.
NEXT - Newcomerstown returns home to Lee Stadium on Friday where it will host Malvern at 7 p.m.
