MARIETTA — The visiting John Glenn Lady Muskies dropped a 3-1 contest to Marietta High in non-league girl’s soccer action on Saturday.

The first goal was scored by Marietta’s Courtney Schuck unassisted at the 34:17 mark in the first half giving the hosts an early 1-0 edge.

Marietta cushioned its lead to 2-0 when Lexie Mullen found the back of the net off an Ava Limegrover assist with 26:55 remaining in the first half and carried that lead into halftime.

The Lady Tigers increased their lead to 3-0 off another Mullen goal, this one being a penalty kick with 36:15 left in the match.

Ashley Townsend cut into the Marietta lead and got the Lady Muskies on the board late in the second half with a goal off a penalty kick providing the final 3-1 score.

The Lady Muskies’ goalkeeper, Audrey Hague recorded seven saves on 10 attempted shots by Marietta while Brooklyn Heiss tallied saves on eight attempted shots for the Lady Tigers.

Following the loss, John Glenn fell to 5-4-1 on the season as Marietta remained unbeaten at 9-0-1.

NEW CUMBERLAND (WV.) — Visiting Cambridge spotted the host Oak Glen Lady Golden Bears a 4-0 lead the opening half and could never recover as the Lady Bobcats dropped a 7-1 OVAC decision Saturday.

Oak Glen put up 39 shots, 27 on goal, and connected on four in the first half with Maggie Kovalcik putting in a header off a corner kick with 35 minutes remaining in the first half. Natalie Szpyrka tacked on the second goal with 23 left in the half with Abigail Myers scoring with 18 minutes still showing and Recce Enochs put in the fourth goal with eight minutes to go before halftime.

The Lady Bears padded the margin to open the second half  with Brooklyn Loveland splitting the pipes off a penalty kick before Cambridge began to cut into the deficit.

Lilly Ritz, who had the Lady ’Cats (0-9-0) two  shot on goal, found the back of the net with 24 minutes remaining in the game to  cut he difference to 5-1.

Enochs then added her second goal of the day with 18 minutes left and Kovalcik followed with her second goal just two minutes later to provide the 7-1 final.

Cambridge goal keeper Grace Morgan recorded 20 saves on the 27 shots on goal by Oak Glen (8-2-0), while the Lady Bears’ goalie, Taylor Allison had one save while giving up the one Cambridge goal.

NEXT — Cambridge will host River View in an East Central Ohio League match Wednesday with kickoff on the pitch at 6 p.m.


Boys Soccer

NEW CUMBERLND (WV) — With each squad scoring a single goal in each of the two frames, the visiting Cambridge Bobcats and the Oak Glen Golden Bears played to a 1-1 tie Saturday evening.

Oak Glen got the advantage in the first half with Coleman Conley finding the back of the net to spot the Bears to a 1-0 halftime edge.

In the second half, the Bobcats pulled even with Uriel Martinez scoring off an assist from Elliott Kirby to even the score at one and force the final tie.

Cambridge outshot Oak Glen 15-8 with Bobcat goal keeper, Evan Hannon recording six saves.

NEXT — Cambridge will travel to River View Tuesday for an East Central Ohio League match beginning at 5 p.m.
