Cross Country

AKRON — The Muskingum University cross country team earned fourth and ninth place finishes at the Tiffleberg Open on Saturday.

Team scoring for the women’s 6K run includes Ohio Northern (59), Mount Union (66), Findlay (91), Muskingum (112), Bluffton (127), John Carroll (131), Heidelberg (136), Adrian (201) and Tiffin (224).

Pacing the Lady Muskies’ fourth-place effort was Macy Mcadams finishing fifth (23:10.6), followed by Rachel Timberlake in eighth place (23:34.1), Lauren Hunt in 32nd place (25:15.3), Keely Ames finishing 37th (25:30.4) and Reilly Walsh placing 43rd (25:57.8).

For the men’s 8K run, John Carroll finished first with 57 followed by Mount Union (61), Findlay (76), Heidelberg (85), Ohio Northern (90), Tiffin (188), Bluffton (200), Bowling Green (240) and Muskingum (241).

Leading the way for the Muskies was John Franz (69th, 28:54.6) along with Andrew Murray (80th, 29:27.9), Doug Mcintire (84th, 29:34.3), Logan Skolosh (87th, 29:44.8) and Sam Cain (98th, 31:01.3).

NEXT —The Muskingum cross country team will be back in action on Friday, September 29th at the All-Ohio Championships at Cedarville starting at 4 p.m.


Women’s Volleyball

GREENCASTLE (IN) — The Muskingum University volleyball team remained red-hot over the weekend without dropping a set as it collected a pair of three-set sweeps over Wheaton and Hanover on Friday and two more three-set sweeps over Rose-Hulman and DePauw at the Depauw Invitational on Saturday.

After finishing the weekend 4-0, Muskingum is off to its best start to a season since 2008 as it improved to 11-1.

In Friday’s matches, the Lady Muskies cruised past Wheaton (1-6) by scores of 25-12, 25-11 and 25-18 and followed that with  25-19, 25-19 and 25-21 wins over Hanover (8-3).

Muskingum swept past Rose-Hulman by scores of 25-20, 25-11 and 25-14 in the first match on Saturday.

Brooke Fatheree enjoyed a big day at the net slamming a match-best 14 kills to go along with a pair of service aces and 10 digs for the Lady Muskies.

Also doing some damage at the net for Muskingum was Taylour Fatheree with nine kills while adding three digs and a block. Jordan Youngs and Courtney Nestoff tallied 14 digs each and Kayla Hall chipped in with six kills.

The Lady Muskies disposed of host DePauw University (7-5) in three sets by scores of 25-23, 25-20 and 25-18 in their second game on Saturday.

At the net, Brooke Fatheree led the team in kills again with 18 followed by Chloe Brandewie with nine kills, Mackenzie O’Shea with seven and Hall with six.

On defense, Nestoff recorded a game-high 18 digs while Youngs added nine and Madison Sikorski chipped in with eight digs.

NEXT —Muskingum will return to action on Saturday in a Tri-Match with Oberlin at Wittenberg starting at 2 p.m.


Women’s Soccer

WAYNESBURG (PA.) — The Muskingum women’s soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 loss at the hands of Waynesburg University in collegiate soccer action on Saturday.

The lone goal for the Lady Yellow Jackets was a goal by Emily Hill off a Sam Nichols assist at the 12:29 mark in the first half.

The Lady Muskies got off six shots in the shutout, but only two of them were on goal.

Muskingum goalkeeper, Jasmine Love recorded two saves on three shots attempted while Waynesburg goalie, Courtney Syfert was a perfect 2-of-2 on save opportunities. 

The Lady Muskies fell to 1-5 on the season following the loss while the Lady Yellow Jackets improved to 4-1-1.

NEXT — Muskingum host Earlham on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
