One day this week I listened as a radio host spoke of the death of Fidel Castro and what it might mean for the people in Cuba. He asked the question, "What would your prayer for Cuba be today?" There were several callers who told a story of how they now work in ministries helping to bring God to the people of Cuba. There were several ideas and prayers mentioned but the one I liked best was the caller who said he would pray for, "A lengthening of days to harvest what God has prepared."
My first thought was that this is what we need all over the world. I was reminded of what God’s Word says in Luke 10:2. Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. Yes we need time to gather the harvest, but many more workers are needed.
Now I must ask myself, is there more I can do? Have I said, "Lord send me" and meant it from my heart? Has God directed me to a work that I have ignored or refused? I wonder how much time is left. How much time will He allow me to finish the work assigned to me?
I must pray for laborers as the Word says. And I will pray for time, a lengthening of days to harvest what God has prepared, even as the caller said.
Time and workers are both blessings that God can, and I believe will, provide if we pray.
