DOVER — The Rotary clubs from Dover and New Philadelphia will sponsor the 2nd annual Dover-Phila Rotary 5K Challenge at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22 at Dover's Crater Stadium.

Proceeds from the event benefit each club's scholarship fund for graduating seniors from Dover and New Philadelphia. When registering, participants are given the opportunity to "vote" for their school system.

The school system with the most "votes" receives $500 for their respective athletic booster organization. The runner-up will receive $250.

"We felt the run and walk allowed us to raise some money for a good cause and to have a fun, positive event for the community during the Dover-Phila rivalry week," said Kris Kreinbihl, New Philadelphia Rotarian. "The site of the 5K will alternate between Dover and New Philadelphia, depending on which school hosts the game on any given year."

In addition, a special award will be presented to the Most Spirited Runner or Walker from each school.

Awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers overall as well as for the following male and female age-group categories: 14 & under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 & over.

All participants who pre-register by Oct. 9 will be guaranteed a t-shirt.

Cost of the 5K is $15 for those who pre-register and $20 for those who register the day of the race. Registration begins at 1 p.m.
