DOVER — The 2017 Tuscarawas County Market Livestock auction Thursday night raised $584,371.50 for junior fair exhibitors at the Tuscarawas County Fair.

The sale total is down from the previous two years when $593,240.07 was raised in 2016 and $632,969.20 in 2015.

The following is a look the results with exhibitor:

• Market lamb — Grand champion lamb (exhibited by Madison DeVault) by Flex Technologies, $20 per pound. Reserve champion (Adeline Kendle) by TMK Bakersville & Valley Propane and Billman’s Appllience Center for $18 per pound. A total of 37 lambs were sold with an average bid of $4.83 per pound.

• Market hog — Grand champion (Garret Dinger) by Sugar Valley Meats, $9.50 per pound. Reserve champion (Kyle Hinds) by Saltwell Western Store, $6 per pound. A total of 227 market hogs were sold with an average bid of $4.06.

• Market steer — Grand champion (Jessica Zwick) by Kimble Company, $7.50 per pound. Reserve champion (Chandler Peters) by Sugar Valley Meats and Saltwell Western Store for $5 per pound. A total of 64 market steer were sold with an average bid of $3.

• Dairy steer — Grand champion (Ryan Harding) by ADM Alliance Nutrition for $1.75 per pound. Reserve champion (Mikayla Horn) by TMK Farm Service and TMK Bakersville & Valley Propane, $1.75. A total of 15 dairy steer were sold with an average bid of $1.08 per pound.

"A huge thank you to all the buyers and supporters of the 2017 Market Livestock sale, as well as all of the volunteers who help to make it happen," said Andrew Gordon, Tuscarawas County Livestock Committee. "With a new split sale, selling in two arenas at the same time, we are thrilled with the results."

Gordon also thanked the local media for helping to spread the news of the support for local 4-H youth.
