NEW PHILADELPHIA —Tuscarawas Central Catholic knocked off Newcomerstown 41-8 in Inter-Valley Conference divisional cross-over action at the Art Teynor Sports Complex on Saturday night.
TCC (2-3) drew first blood when the Saints recovered the opening onside kick-off and scored on a 14-yard reverse by Alex Price with 9:27 left in the opening quarter. The extra-point by Pat Gonano put the Saints up 7-0.
Next, the Saints' Nathan Price scored from 23 yards out and Gonano's PAT kick made it 14-0.
Newcomerstown (0-5) got on the scoreboard in the second quarter when Wyatt Conner scored on a six-yard run. He added the two-point conversion run to trim the Saints’ lead to 14-8.
Central extended its lead to 20-8 on a 52-yard pass from Gonano to Ryan Dick and added another score on a 34-yard pass from Gonano to Nathan Price. Gonano's point-after following the second score made it 27-8 at the half.
The Saints took control in the third quarter with a pair of touchdowns to start the running clock.
Anthony Fragasse tallied on a 43-yard run to push the lead to 34-8 following Gonano’s boot and the final tally came on a 17-yard pass from Gonano to Price, with Gonano again adding the conversion kick.
TCC finished with a 445-262 edge in total yardage. The Saints had 331 passing on a 21-of-30 effort and added 104 rushing while the Trojans’ total included 234 on the ground and just 28 through the air as 4-of-9 passes hit the mark.
