GUERNSEY — Opened earlier this year, Beyond Precision Taxidermy LLC on Guernsey Valley Road is an up and coming business in one of the state’s richest hunting regions.

The Guernsey and Tuscarawas county area is well known for its deer and small game hunting opportunities, whether it be by gun or bow, and that’s what the owner of Beyond Precision Taxidermy is hoping to capitalize upon for years to come.

"Things are going well," said owner Tristan Mizer, a Newcomerstown High graduate. "We  have received 10 deer (to preserve) already and several fish to mount since we opened. I want to emphasize what is important is quality work in a respectable amount of time.

"I want to be professional and treat people the way I want to be treated," added Mizer.

Beyond Precision Taxidermy, 5989 Guernsey Valley Road, opened in April.

"I have been a hunter all my life and this is something that I have always been interested in doing, even as a kid growing up," said Mizer. "There are not a lot of people around here doing taxidermy work and I thought this area would be a good market for that type of service."

Mizer attended the Western Pennsylvania School of Taxidermy in Punxsutawny, Pa., before opening the business.

"I used my G.I. Bill funds to pay for my schooling," said Mizer, a veteran and long-time resident of Newcomerstown with family still living in the area.

Mizer, who currently owns and operates a lawn car business, hopes to make Beyond Precision Taxidermy a full-time career. "My goal is to be full-time," he said.
