NEW PHILADELPHIA — The Tuscarawas Philharmonic will bring back Broadway star Franc D’Ambrosio for its holiday concert "Christmas in New York" at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 9. The special performance will also feature the Philharmonic’s Adult Chorus and Yuletide Children’s Chorus.

D’Ambrosio is best known for his impressive portrayal of the Phantom in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s award-winning musical, "The Phantom of the Opera." His resume also includes an Academy Award-nominated film, an Emmy Award-nominated television show, a four-time Tony-nominated Broadway show, two Grammy considerations and a National Theatre Award nomination.

Since leaving Broadway, D’Ambrosio has toured extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and South America with his critically acclaimed one-man shows; and in 2011, he debuted a new show, "Christmas in New York."

D’Ambrosia performed his Broadway show with the Philharmonic in 2015, and after discussions with Director Eric Benjamin, agreed Benjamin would orchestrate his Christmas selections, which he had been performing with piano accompaniment.

The Dec. 9 performance will be the debut of Benjamin’s orchestrated arrangements, completed just this year.

"It’s been like having a big Christmas coloring book, filling in the empty spaces for the orchestra," he said. "It’s been great fun to turn the one-man show into a musical."

While the "Christmas in New York" concert is nearly sold out, tickets are available at www.TuscarawasPhilharmonic.org or by calling the Performing Arts Center box office, 330-308-6400. Tickets range from $24 to $36 with student and senior discounts available.

The concert is possible thanks to the generous contribution of Shirley A. Wagner, who commissioned the orchestration of "Christmas in New York."
