Beginning Monday, Dec. 11, SR 751 will be closed just north of Township Road 248 while ODOT crews work on replacing a culvert. Work hours will be from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily; however, the road will be closed to through traffic for the duration of the project. The project is expected to be completed by Friday, Dec. 15, weather permitting. Detour: I-77 to US 36 to SR 751. Tim Pritchard and family are inviting area residents to their annual candlelight Christmas Carol Sing at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, at Christ United Methodist Church. The program includes three pianos playing together, piano duets, special guests and singing of traditional Christmas carols. The Newcomerstown High School Class of 1957 will hold its next luncheon at Dee's Restaurant in New Philadelphia on Jan. 2 at noon.
Christ United Methodist Church, 648 Oak St., will have a traditional candlelight service in the sanctuary Dec. 24 at 7 p.m. There will also be the annual Christmas musical, "Joy," on Dec. 17 in the River of Life Community Center.
The Newcomerstown Christmas Parade will be Saturday, Dec. 9, at 1 p.m. in downtown Newcomerstown. The line-up begins at noon at Newcomerstown High School. Santa Claus will be at the East Elementary School immediately following the parade with treats and refreshments. The Newcomerstown High School Class of 1957 will gather for lunch at the New Philadelphia Elks on Dec. 5 at noon.
The fourth annual Alumni Basketball Game will be played at Newcomerstown High School on Friday, Dec. 29 at 6 p.m. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $5 for spectators 12 and over, $3 for children 11 and under. Isleta United Methodist Church will have its 12th annual "Christmas Cookie & Candy" sale in the church basement on Saturday, Dec. 9, from 8-11 a.m.. There will be hundreds of delicious holiday cookies and candies to choose from, and participants can make up their own assortment of favorites. Price is $6.50 per pound.
