As I thought of Christmas and the one whose birth it is that we celebrate, I was reminded that His name is Jesus. I remember too, that He was known by many names.
Isaiah 7:14 says He shall be called Immanuel which as we know, means God with us. We can probably quote Isaiah 9:6 which reads, For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
In Luke 1:31 the angel tells Mary that His name shall be called Jesus.
Then in Matthew 1:21 the angel tells Joseph, thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.
I find many names in the Bible which refer to Christ Jesus. I like the carpenter’s son, the great shepherd, alpha and omega, master, redeemer, savior, bread of life, bright and morning star, and Lamb of God. I especially like 2 Corinthians 9:15 which refers to Him as the unspeakable gift.
Many of the songs we sing proclaim the wonderful name of Jesus. Wednesday evening Pastor sang "I Love the Precious Name of Jesus." The song was such a blessing to me and seemed to tie together my thoughts of His name. The chorus says, "For I was lost in sin when Jesus found me, and He reached way down and put His arms around me. He placed me on the solid rock to stay. How I love the name of Jesus more each day."
I listened to those words and the blessing seemed to pour over me making it hard to stay in my seat and not come to my feet praising Him.
It truly is a blessing to know the name of Jesus, the baby born in a manger so many years ago. How I love the name of Jesus more each day.
