Winners were named at the annual Rachel B. Stoffer Spelling Bee at Newcomerstown Middle School?? on Friday, Jan. 26, with 32 ?NMS ?students in grades 6-8 participating.

After 14 rounds, 8th grader Seth Gamble became the champion for the second year in a row, this year by correctly spelling the word "entrepreneurs." ?After a well-fought battle, ?first runner-up was 8th grader Caitlin Green, daughter or Ryan and Christie Green, and second runner-up was 7th grader Dakota Offman, son of Kelly Offman.

School officials gave special thanks to NMS staff members, who helped in a variety of capacities to make our spelling bee possible: Pronouncer Mr. Tyler Kiner; Judges Mrs. Shelley Cline, Ms. Lana Cushman, Mrs. Michelle Golder; Recorder Carol Boltz; and Stage Director Ashley Brooks.

Seth will travel to Glen Oak High School in Canton on March 3, for The Canton Repository’s 72nd annual Regional Final Spelling Bee. The bee, which will begin at 1:30 p.m., is presented by Malone University, and students from Stark, Tuscarawas, Carroll and Wayne counties will be competing.
