PORT WASHINGTON — Village council agreed to increase the Port Washington Police Department wages with experience being taken into consideration for increases.
The police chief will receive $18 per hour while patrolman wages are as follows: One to six months, $15.50 per hour; six to 12 months, $16 per hour and $16.50 per hour after one year.
In other business:
The installation of a "Book for Book" box in the village was discussed. The administration would like to see the box installed at the square. Mayor Tom Gardner will discuss this further with the library.
Council approved a contract with Newton Asphalt Paving for the resurfacing of High Street, at a cost estimated at $23,600, and they passed a resolution for the amendment of the 2018 appropriations.
Heard from Dave Williams, a representative of Game Time Playground. He presented playground equipment options for Belden Park and Bates Park.
Estimates for equipment are Belden Park, $34,000, and Bates Park, $24,000. No action was taken.
The Belden Park equipment was destroyed by fire, determined to be vandalism, last fall. The village was awarded $23,000 through the Natural Works Grant for the new Playground Equipment for Belden Park.
Eagle Scout Reese Coulson has installed two flag poles (an American flag and a Little League flag) at the Bates T-ball Field park. Coulson is completing the flag pole project through his Scout Group and has obtained donations and handled the entire project on his own, it was noted.
Council will next meet at 7 p.m. April 3 in the town hall.
