The Newcomerstown Spring Community Cleanup will be Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Residents from Newcomerstown may bring items as long as it is not regular food garbage, grass clippings, brush, tires, solvents (oil, paint, cleaners). Residents can enter only through the State Street entrance by the recycling bins. The collection bins will be by the Street Department garage. Do not enter by the fire house.
The Newcomerstown Farmers Market will begin operating on May 11 in the Newcomerstown Public Library parking lot from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The main parking lot will be closed to traffic during the Farmers’ Market. The purpose of the Newcomerstown Farmers’ Market is to promote local agriculture and provide fresh, seasonal foods as well as locally grown plants and locally produced products for sale to the public. It will be open each Friday through the second Friday in October. The Newcomerstown Public Library hosts the Farmers’ Market free of charge. To participate, vendors must grow, raise or make what they sell. Vendors who live in Tuscarawas, Coshocton, Guernsey, Harrison and Holmes County will be given priority if space becomes limited. All vendors must complete and sign a vendor application including a Participation Waiver and Hold Harmless statement before setting up a booth. Nighttime bridge sweeping operations were to begin Sunday, April 29, throughout Tuscarawas County on multiple routes and various bridges. ODOT crews will be working from 10 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., during which time roadways will be reduced to one lane. Bridge sweeping will take place on the following routes: I-77, U.S. 250, U.S. 36. Work will be done through May 4 and May 6-11. ODOT reminds motorists to move over or slow down for all roadside workers, it’s the law! This law not only protects ODOT workers, it also protects the traveling public and should be obeyed at all times. COSHOCTON CO. — As work continues on the SR-16/?SR-541 bridge replacement project, drivers will see the following traffic pattern change. SR-541 at SR-16 will be shifted into the Phase 1 traffic pattern for bridge work. Traffic will be shifted to the south side of the bridges and reduced to one lane in each direction on SR-541. This traffic pattern change will be on SR-541 between Whitewoman Street and Second Street in the City of Coshocton. Resurfacing is under way on State Route 751 in Coshocton County. The road is being resurfaced from West Lafayette to the Tuscarawas County line. Motorists can expect two lanes of traffic to be maintained with daily flagged lane closures. The contractor is Shelly Co. The estimated completion date is Oct. 15.
A Bluegrass Gospel / Country Music Jam is planned for the third Sunday of each month from 2-5 p.m. at the Historic Everals Chapel, 60417 Everals Church Road just west of Newcomerstown. The event is hosted by Chestnut Hill Bluegrass band and sponsored by Everals Chapel Preservation Society.
