The first of what is hoped to an annual "Hero Hustle 5K Walk and Run" was held Saturday at Cy Young Park in Newcomerstown.
The #orangeandblackgetfit coaches came together to sponsor the event, joining hands with Chad Elliott’s Ohio Valley Veterans program that benefits veterans in need. All proceeds raised went back to these non-profit organizations.
The Newcomerstown Veterans Honor Guard raised the flag to start the event and Phil Valdez, a Newcomerstown High School graduate, provided a brief history of Memorial Day and what it means to the United States.
The #orangeandblackgetfit team provides free workouts throughout the week in the Newcomerstown and West Lafayette communities. The team offers "POUND fit" with certified instructors as well as cardio drumming and fit camp. Instructors are Herbalife trained and offer shakes, products and advice after each class.
The Ohio Valley Veterans is a program started by Chad Elliott to help veterans who may be homeless or in need.
