Cy Young Days

The Cy Young Days Festival will be June 22-24, and the committee’s next meeting will be 6:30 p.m., May 16, at Dick’s Place in Newcomerstown.

Barbecue

Frys Valley Moravian Church, 594 Fry’s Valley Road SW, New Philadelphia, is hosting its annual spring chicken BBQ on May 19, from 4-7 p.m. The meal includes ½ chicken, baked beans, macaroni salad, roll, beverage, and homemade dessert. Dine in or carry out is available. Meals are $9 for adults and $5 for children. Handicapped accessible.

Farmers Market

The Newcomerstown Farmers Market began operating on May 11 in the Newcomerstown Public Library parking lot from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The main parking lot will be closed to traffic during the Farmers’ Market. The purpose of the Newcomerstown Farmers’ Market is to promote local agriculture and provide fresh, seasonal foods as well as locally grown plants and locally produced products for sale to the public. It will be open each Friday through the second Friday in October. The Newcomerstown Public Library hosts the Farmers’ Market free of charge. To participate, vendors must grow, raise or make what they sell. Vendors who live in Tuscarawas, Coshocton, Guernsey, Harrison and Holmes County will be given priority if space becomes limited. All vendors must complete and sign a vendor application including a Participation Waiver and Hold Harmless statement before setting up a booth. Plainfield Reunion

The annual Plainfield School Reunion will be Sunday, June 3, at the Linton Community Center (formerly Plainfield Elementary School). This is open to anyone who graduated or attended Plainfield School. Dinner catered by Schumaker Farms begins at 1 p.m. Honorees will be the Panther basketball and baseball players and the cheerleaders. Bring any sports memorabilia to share. Featured art

The West Lafayette Library is featuring watercolor pictures painted by Kay McCoy during the month of May. Library hours are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Thursday and Friday, noon to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Resurfacing

Resurfacing is under way on State Route 751 in Coshocton County. The road is being resurfaced from West Lafayette to the Tuscarawas County line. Motorists can expect two lanes of traffic to be maintained with daily flagged lane closures. The contractor is Shelly Co. The estimated completion date is Oct. 15.

Music benefit

A Bluegrass Gospel / Country Music Jam is planned for the third Sunday of each month from 2-5 p.m. at the Historic Everals Chapel, 60417 Everals Church Road just west of Newcomerstown. The event is hosted by Chestnut Hill Bluegrass band and sponsored by Everals Chapel Preservation Society. The event is free and open to the public, All donations and proceeds go toward maintenance and repairs of the old Historic church. Contact Duane Hardesty on 740-498-8456. Food and drinks available.
