The eighth grade team of teachers at Newcomerstown High School took a large group of eighth graders to the North Canton Skate and Entertainment Center as a reward for those students maintaining the high standards set forth by their teachers. Each student was given 30 points at the beginning of the school year to use as their admission for this day. The teachers then set up a point system to reinforce the things that they feel are important for the students to do in order to be successful, which includes maintaining consistent attendance, doing their daily work, coming to class prepared to learn, cooperating with the teachers in the classrooms, and working to earn passing grades. If the students failed to live up to any part of this educational process throughout the year, points were deducted. All students who still had points remaining by the week of May 10 were rewarded by going with their classmates to enjoy this fun trip. Those who were able to go on this trip enjoyed a great day filled with roller skating/blading, laser tag, bumper cars, laser maze, rock-climbing walls, as well as playing many arcade games and winning cool prizes.
