School dates

Important dates coming up for Newcomerstown Middle School students:

Tuesday, Aug. 14 - Sixth grade and new student orientation, 6:30 p.m., in the NMS auditorium.

Wednesday, Aug. 15 - Seventh Grade Schedule Pick Up, between the hours of 9 a.m. - noon and 1-3 p.m.

Thursday, Aug. 16 - Eighth Grade Schedule Pick Up, between the hours of 9 a.m. - noon and 1-3 p.m.

Monday, Aug. 20 - First day of classes for students.

Shades of the Past

The Plainfield United Methodist Church will hold its annual chicken barbecue and Shades of the Past Car Show on Saturday, Aug. 25. Car show registration of $10 per car will begin at 3 p.m., with car show and the meal beginning at 5 p.m. Car show awards will be presented at 7 p.m. Menu includes chicken, homemade potato salad, applesauce, roll, dessert and beverage. Price is $10 for adults and $5 for children. The dining hall is air-conditioned.

Class of 1973

The Newcomerstown High School Class of 1973 has scheduled its 45th class reunion for Saturday, Aug. 18, at 7 p.m. at the ARTS/NCT Building, 304 S. College St., Newcomerstown. For more information or reservations, contact Nancy or Jeff Orr at 740-498-7782.

Class of 1978

The Newcomerstown High School Class of 1978 will hold its 40th class reunion this year. Class members will meet and attend the home Newcomerstown Trojan football game on Aug. 31, and then meet at the Newcomerstown Elks Lodge from 8-11 p.m. on Saturday Sept. 1.

Yellow Flag Sales

Movie planned

The Bakersville Community Church, 28164 Coshocton Co. Road 97, invites area residents to the showing of "I Can Only Imagine" at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 24. This inspiring and true story behind Mercy Me’s chart-topping song brings ultimate hope to so many and is a gripping reminder of the power of true forgiveness. A snack and drink will be provided for this free viewing.

Horse Show

The Newcomerstown Saddle Club will have a contest fun show beginning at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Sunset Arena south of Newcomerstown on Kings Ridge Road. Fun shows feature a $50 costume class award. For information, call Richard or Irene Gano at 740-498-8931.

Gospel music

Rocky Fork Ranch Resort Chapel is bringing CGMA award winning gospel performer Paul Williams to perform Aug. 17, at 6:30 p.m. Location will be in Clubhouse at Rocky Fork Ranch Resort. Free admission.

Family Feud

It’s described as "Like Family Feud ... but not." The event will be from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22, at ARTSNCT, S. College Street. Assemble a team of five or just come to watch. Teams may pre-register by texting 740-575-5710.

Class of 1961

The Newcomerstown High School Class of 1961 will meet at 1 p.m. on Sept. 12 at the home of George and Kathy Everhart. Take US 36 to Coshocton and turn left to Newcastle, go left on Route 206, then one mile to 24881 and turn right. Call 740-545-9293 or 740-498-7663 for information.

Art on display

Jean Norris, a local artist, will be displaying her landscape and floral pictures done in a variety of mediums at the West Lafayette Library during the month of August. Jean's art can be seen Monday and Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 601 East Main Street, West Lafayette.

Farmers Market

The Newcomerstown Farmers Market is open in the Newcomerstown Public Library parking lot from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The main parking lot will be closed to traffic during the Farmers’ Market.

Music benefit

A Bluegrass Gospel / Country Music Jam is planned for the third Sunday of each month from 2-5 p.m. at the Historic Everals Chapel, 60417 Everals Church Road just west of Newcomerstown. The event is hosted by Chestnut Hill bluegrass band and sponsored by Everals Chapel Preservation Society. The event is free and open to the public, All donations and proceeds go toward maintenance and repairs of the old Historic church. Contact Duane Hardesty on 740-498-8456. Food and drinks available.
